Irene is a Ph.D student in Materials Science and Engineering at Hasselt University and IMEC (Belgium), where she has been pursuing her doctoral studies since 2022. In 2023, she was awarded the FWO PhD fellowship. Thanks to this grant, she spent six months in 2024 conducting part of her research at CNRS in Paris. Since June 2025, she has also been an affiliate member of the Ager research group and U.C. Berkeley.

She holds an M.Sc. in Materials Science and Engineering, and her current research focuses on photoelectrocatalysis using binary antimony chalcogenides, with emphasis on material synthesis, characterization, and device integration.

Outside of research, Irene enjoys reading, cinema, journalism, playing chess, sports, and traveling- especially visiting national parks!
